OCTOBER 29, 2017

Join us in our Journey!

WE GATHER TO PRAISE GOD

TO PONDER: We all dream of living the full life, but failure comes to dim our vision. How does failure affect your daily life?

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP
Let us praise the God of all ages.
We will praise the Creator of all the earth.
Let us praise the Holy One who from everlasting to everlasting is God.
God's steadfast love is with us as we worship in word and song.

OPENING PRAYER (IN UNISON)

God of mercy, our lives do not just go on and on. We forget that life is terminal. Teach us how to live within the limits that You have set for us. May we relish life even in its transitoriness. Help us to savour this moment, for our lives are gifts to us. AMEN

HYMN: "Canticle of the Turning" M.V. 120

TIME WITH THE CHILDREN
Jean Davis - Dorchester Food Bank

SERVICE OF LIGHTING THE CANDLE

As we wait for the candle to be lit, there is a feeling of anticipation.
We rejoice in the light that has come among us in the person of Jesus who is our Saviour.

ANTHEM

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (IN UNISON)
God of our yesterdays and our tomorrows, we are drawn to Your way, but we also shrink from it. We want the future You have in store for us, but we also like things the way they are. You promise us new relationships, but we find comfort in our own. You promise us grace, but we prefer the way we have always done it. In Your love, turn our complacency into a longing for Your future. AMEN

WORDS OF ASSURANCE
Before we turn to God, God is turned to us. Our hearts are restless until we find rest in God. We are a forgiven people. Thanks be to God.

WE HEAR GOD'S LOVING WORD FOR US

RESPONSIVE PSALM: Psalm 90 (Parts One and Three)
V.U. 805-806

FIRST TESTAMENT READING: Deuteronomy 34:1-12

GOSPEL READING: Matthew 22: 34-46

MESSAGE "In Life and in Death"

Lord, send your Spirit in this place,

OFFERING INVITATION

OFFERTORY RESPONSE: For food in a world where many walk in hunger, for friends in a world where many walk alone, for faith in a world where many walk in fear, we give you thanks, O God. V.U.552

OFFERTORY PRAYER: This is the moment for which we have been called together. In the offering up of ourselves and our gifts we experience the grace of a loving God. May we become friends to the needy as we give ourselves in service to a hurting world. AMEN

HYMN: "O God, Our help in Ages Past" V.U. 806
