WE GATHER TO PRAISE GOD

TO PONDER: Think of a situation in your life in which one choice or one person's actions changed the situation, for worse or for better.

MUSIC PRELUDE

HYMN: "Praise My Soul" V.U. 240

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

CALL TO WORSHIP:

Let us gather our hearts and minds from busy-ness and bothering,
from worry and weariness, from distraction and despair.
Let us gather our hearts and mind for prayer and praising,
for singing and for swaying, for wonderment and joy.
Let us worship God in the beauty of holiness. Amen.
Kate Crawford, Huron Shores U.C., Grand Bend

OPENING PRAYER

You are full of surprises, God. We woke up this morning and found a new day had already begun even while we slept. What else was happening in the night? Perhaps Jesus was at work, making miracles happen in people's lives. Open our hearts this morning, and open our ears to experience your Word among us. Amen.

Kate Gregory, Belwood-Metz P.C. Belwood, ON

We continue to pray with the words that Jesus taught us to pray, speaking together THE LORD'S PRAYER

HYMN: "Here I Am, Lord" V.U. 509

TIME WITH THE CHILDREN:

SERVICE OF LIGHTING THE CANDLE:

Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
Jesus is our friend who loves us always.

SOLO: "Be Thou My Vision" Shannon Wakeling

WE HEAR GOD'S LOVING WORD FOR US

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION: O God, open our ears, our eyes, our hearts and minds to see the effects that all that we do or fail to do has on other people, on your church, and on our church family. Loving Creator, open our senses to the wonders of the world around us that you have created, have brought into being, some of them over and over again. The vast number of meteors streaking across the heavens last night are but a hint at the number of glorious, awe-inspiring vistas you have created. God give us the will to see and experience them. Amen.

RESPONSIVE PSALM: Psalm 105
(V.U. 828-829, Parts One and Two)

OLD TESTAMENT READING: Genesis 37: 1-4, 12-28
This is the witness of the People of Israel.

GOSPEL READING: Matthew 14: 22-33
This is the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Thanks be to God.

MESSAGE: "Chains of Behaviour"

RESPONSE: V.U. 400 Lord, listen to your children praying,
Lord, send your Spirit in this place,
Lord, listen to your children praying,
Send us love, send us power, send us grace

WE RESPOND TO GOD'S WORD IN FAITH AND ACTION

HYMN: "Your Hand, O God, has guided" V.U. 274

PASTORAL PRAYER:

OFFERING INVITATION:

OFFERTORY RESPONSE: For food in a world where many walk in hunger, for friends in a world where many walk alone, for faith in a world where many walk in fear, we give you thanks, O God.

V.U.552

OFFERTORY PRAYER: O Holy One, receive these offerings for the use and growth of your ministry and mission in your world, which we are so fortunate to share a small portion thereof. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

HYMN: "Will Your Anchor Hold?" V.U. 675

COMMISSIONING: The Grace of Christ, the love of God, and the Communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid: for God abides with us, ready to assist us in filling every need, and in helping to fill the needs of others. Go in peace, a true community of believers. Amen.
