CALL TO WORSHIP
We wait in silence for God to come among us.
We hope in God who is our Redeemer.
The powers of this world shall not overcome us.
God will deliver us from wanton avarice and easy forgetfulness.
We will trust God and never lose heart.
Let us worship God in spirit and in truth.
OPENING PRAYER
Creator and Sustainer, we come to You from the comforts and the
stresses, the hopes and the fears of our daily lives. We come with our
questions and our doubts. We come from the tangled confusion of the
world. Be present to us that our broken lives may be renewed. Give us
wisdom to live more fully in these days. We pray in the name of Jesus.

LIGHTING THE CHRIST CANDLE
Like a new dawn breaking upon us, the light of Epiphany comes to open our
eyes.
We cannot bear its brightness, God, so fill us with Your presence.
A PRAYER OF CONFESSION
We have heard a prophet's cry but we have continued to follow the old
ways. God has brought a new system into being. God's rule is upon us.
We can no longer seek shelter in our own prejudices. Let us turn from
those values that entrap us. The God who has set us free calls us to
set our hopes on Jesus the liberator. AMEN
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Hear the good news! We do not struggle alone against the forces arrayed
against us. God sent Jesus to open a new way for us. We can live as a
forgiven people.
