Dorchester United Church

Wherever you are, whoever you are,
Join us in our Journey!

WE GATHER TO PRAISE GOD
TO PONDER How would you answer Jesus' question,
"Who do you say that I am"

MUSIC PRELUDE

HYMN: "Though I may speak" V.U. 372

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

CALL TO WORSHIP:

God knows each one of us, by name, by character, by our faults and by our successes, and God calls us out and away from our other pastimes, into relationship, into friendship, into love with God and with each other, to uphold and uplift us, to heal us of our shortcomings, to make us whole in God's love and in the love of neighbour. Let us worship God!

OPENING PRAYER
Loving God, we come as both the sowers and the seed. We come often feeling small, yet you nurture our branching out. We come to drink of your living water, and to share that living water with others. We come to embrace the earthiness of life, knowing that out of it comes our growth into maturity and fullness of mission. Bless, O Spirit, in our shared journey of faith as we proclaim the good news of Jesus the Christ. Amen.

We continue to pray with the words that Jesus taught us to pray, singing together THE LORD'S PRAYER

HYMN: "Make a Joyful Noise" V.U. 820

TIME WITH THE CHILDREN:

SERVICE OF LIGHTING THE CANDLE:
Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
Jesus is our friend who loves us always.

SOLO:

WE HEAR GOD'S LOVING WORD FOR US

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION: Ever-revealing God: Open us this day to your Word; open us to your way; open us to your call for us - today! Through the pages of Scripture, make your way and will known to us and your call as compelling as it was for those first disciples long ago. Amen

RESPONSIVE PSALM: Psalm 124 (V.U. 848)

OLD TESTAMENT READING: Exodus 1:8 - 2:10

This is the witness of the People of Israel.
Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL READING: Matthew 16: 13-20

This is the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Thanks be to God.

MESSAGE: "How Does Jesus Matter in Your Life?"

RESPONSE:
V.U. 400 Lord, listen to your children praying,
Lord, send your Spirit in this place,
Lord, listen to your children praying,
Send us love, send us power, send us grace

WE RESPOND TO GOD'S WORD IN FAITH AND ACTION

HYMN: "Great is they Faithfulness" V.U. 288

PASTORAL PRAYER:

OFFERING INVITATION: We give what we can and ask that our gifts be used by your Holy Power, in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

OFFERTORY RESPONSE: For food in a world where many walk in hunger, for friends in a world where many walk alone, for faith in a world where many walk in fear, we give you thanks, O God.

V.U.552

OFFERTORY PRAYER: Loving God, accept these gifts as thanksgiving for your many blessings. Accept these gifts as our commitment to your kingdom. Accept these gifts and accept our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

HYMN: "The Church's One Foundation" V.U. 331

COMMISSIONING: It is time to leave this place of worship.
We look around and see family and friends, and our eyes tell us that God is good. We have heard beautiful music, and our ears tell us that God is good. We walk outside, feel the heat of the sun, the power of the earth coming to life once more, and our hearts tell us that God is good.
So, go from here, your soul filled, ready to live a different life, because you know that God is good.
Sheryl Spencer, Mount Forest P.C.
