Dorchester United Church

Wherever you are, whoever you are,
Join us in our Journey!

WE GATHER TO PRAISE GOD
TO PONDER: Do you find sometimes that there is just too much going on - too much going on in your life, too much going on in the world? Just too much! You want to go into your happy place where there is just you, your pet, your family and friends, a cozy fire, a refreshing drink, kick back and not even watch the world go by, just let it go by? There is a Danish word for that - it's called Hygge - but God offers a better way for handling all the stuff of life that comes our way, that is thrown our way. Three simple words - Look to me.

MUSICAL PRELUDE < (A time for quiet reflection and preparation for worship)

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

HYMN: " Come, Now Is The Time To Worship"

Chorus
Come now is the time to worship
Come now is the time to give your heart
Come just as you are to worship
Come just as you are before your God
Come

One day every tongue
Will confess You are God
One day every knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure remains
For those who gladly choose You now
Chorus

1

Willingly we choose to surrender our lives
Willingly our knees will bow
With all our heart soul mind and strength
We gladly choose You now
Chorus (L)

CALL TO WORSHIP

HYMN " God of Grace and God of Glory" V.U. 686

A PRAYER OF APPROACH

SUNG RESPONSE:
Search me, O God, and know my heart today,
Try me, O Saviour, know my thoughts, I pray;
See if there be some brokenness in me;
Cleanse me from every wrong, and set me free.

SERVICE OF LIGHTING THE CANDLE:
We light the Christ Candle to remind us that if we keep our focus on Jesus, and fully trust him, then we have no need to fear what lies ahead of us in this life. For God holds us in the very palm of his hand

ANTHEM

WE HEAR GOD'S LOVING WORD FOR US

MESSAGE: "Christian Hygge"

HYMN: "The Solid Rock"

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name

Chorus

On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In ev'ry high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

Chorus

His oath His covenant His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

Chorus

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

Chorus

PREPARING FOR PRAYER: V.U. 400

Lord, Listen To Your Children Praying
Lord, listen to your children praying,
Lord, send your Spirit in this place,
Lord, listen to your children praying,
Send us love, send us power, send us grace

PASTORAL PRAYER

And we continue to pray as Jesus taught us saying…
Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

WE RESPOND TO GOD'S WORD IN FAITH AND ACTION

OFFERING INVITATION

OFFERTORY RESPONSE: V.U. 552
For food in a world where many walk in hunger, for friends in a world where many walk alone, for faith in a world where many walk in fear, we give you thanks, O God
