FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

JUNE 17, 2018

Dorchester United Church

Wherever you are, whoever you are, Join us in our Journey!

WE GATHER TO PRAISE GOD

MUSIC PRELUDE: (A time for quiet reflection and preparation for worship)

HYMN: "My Faith Looks up to Thee" V.U. 663

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

CALL TO WORSHIP:

The Kingdom of God is like…
A grain of wheat.
The Kingdom of God is like…
A mustard seed.
The Kingdom of God is like…
A newborn baby.
The Kingdom of God is…
Growing in many ways
We can't even begin to notice or imagine.
The Kingdom of God is…
The Kingdom of God is!
Alleluia!

OPENING PRAYER (in unison)
God, we raise our expectations as we worship today. Do not leave us content to settle for a feel-good moment, for a tidbit of usable wisdom, for a momentary easing of stress.
Let us come seeking an encounter with the risen Christ so that we may be transformed to become his living body for the world. In that holy name we pray. Amen.
We continue to pray with the words that Jesus taught us to pray, speaking together: THE LORD'S PRAYER.

HYMN: "Take My Life and Let it Be" V.U. 506

SERVICE OF LIGHTING THE CANDLE:
Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
Jesus is our friend who loves us always.

WE HEAR GOD'S LOVING WORD FOR US

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:

Compassionate One, open our hearts, our lives, and our senses to revelations both old and new, for we are seeking newness in the message that is as old as you. Amen.

EPISTLE READING: 2 Corinthians 5: 6-10, 14-17

RESPONSIVE PSALM: Psalm 20 (V.U. 742)

NEW TESTAMENT READING: Mark 4: 26 - 34

This is the witness of the people of Israel.
Thanks be to God.

HYMN: "God of Still Waiting" M.V. 20

MESSAGE: "Navigating the Tensions of Living"

RESPONSE : "Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying"

V.U. 400

Lord, listen to your children praying,
Lord, send your Spirit in this place,
Lord, listen to your children praying,
Send us love, send us power, send us grace.

WE RESPOND TO GOD'S WORD IN FAITH AND ACTION

PASTORAL PRAYER:

OFFERING INVITATION:

At this time, let us share with God our gifts of time, talent, and treasure, giving thanks for the many ways in which we have been blessed;

OFFERTORY RESPONSE: Grant us, God, the grace of giving, with a spirit large and free, that ourselves and all our living we may offer faithfully. V.U. 540

OFFERTORY PRAYER: These are our monetary gifts, O God. With them come our hours of work, our years of service, and the love of our hearts. Bless them in the work of this congregation and in the compassion that they can offer the world. Amen.

HYMN: "Deep in Our Hearts" M.V. 153

COMMISSIONING:
We have been given the ministry of reconciliation!
We are ambassadors for Christ! Let us go from this place with this good news to share with a world most hungry to hear it! Amen! ( Kate Crawford, Huron Shores U.C., Grand Bend, ON)

POSTLUDE: (A time to quietly reflect on all that you have experienced this morning)
