Dorchester United Church

Wherever you are, whoever you are,
Join us in our Journey!

WE GATHER TO PRAISE GOD

TO PONDER: Joshua 24:14-15 (The Message)
14 "So now: Fear God. Worship him in total commitment. Get rid of the gods your ancestors worshipped on the far side of The River (the Euphrates) and in Egypt. You, worship God.
15 "If you decide that it's a bad thing to worship God, then choose a god you'd rather serve-and do it today. Choose one of the gods your ancestors worshipped from the country beyond The River, or one of the gods of the Amorites, on whose land you're now living. As for me and my family, we'll worship God."

MUSICAL PRELUDE: (A time for quiet reflection and preparation for worship)

A PRAYER OF APPROACH

SUNG RESPONSE
Search me, O God, and know my heart today,
Try me, O Saviour, know my thoughts, I pray;
See if there be some brokenness in me;
Cleanse me from every wrong, and set me free.

SERVICE OF LIGHTING THE CANDLE:
We light the Christ candle to remind us that God is not finished with us yet. He has so many more blessings in store for us.

SOLO: "When I First Fell In Love With Jesus"
sung by Deborah Hiley

WE HEAR GOD'S LOVING WORD FOR US

SCRIPTURE READING: Titus 3:1-8 (NASB95)
1 Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,
2 to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing every consideration for all men.
3 For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.
4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared,
5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
8 This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men

MESSAGE: " Summer - A Time of Renewal"

COVENANT RENEWAL LITANY

Leader: Every day we journey on this earth is a day in which we make choices:
left or right, up or down, in or out, yes or no? Some choices are simple, and some are very complex, but one choice informs all the others:
Who will be our God? Who will we trust to see us through this journey? Whose way will we follow?
People: Who has been with us from before the beginning, bringing us into existence? Who has loved us and blessed us and sent us on our way? Who has pointed us toward the path and posted the signs we need to find our way? Who has been at our side when the road has been smooth and gently curving? Who has kept with us through hairpin turns and construction zones and potholes and detours? Who will celebrate with us when we complete our course and seek the comfort of eternity?
Leader: It is Yahweh our God.
People: Yes it is Yahweh our God
Leader: Will you choose this day to stay faithful to Yahweh our God who is faithful to us?
People: Count us in.
Leader: Will you choose this day to place your whole trust in Yahweh our God who is trustworthy?
People: Count us in.
Leader: Will you choose this day to commit your talents and your resources to Yahweh our God who bestowed them upon us?
People: Count us in.
Leader: Will you choose this day to love God who loved us first?
People: Count us in.
ALL: We devote ourselves to you by renewing the covenant - the promise you made to humanity so long ago. Because you are our God, we will be your people. Enlarge our faithfulness, our trust, our commitment and our love so that we may graciously uphold our side of the deal. Help us always to recognize your presence and your blessings throughout our journey. Keep us in your care. Amen.
